The planning Services Manager gave a brief history and synopsis of the works carried out to improve the aesthetic appearance of the previously set Yorkstone slab commemorating the life and achievements of Private Claude Nunney, recipient of the Victoria Cross.
The new setting has greatly improved the appearance of the paving surrounding the War Memorial within Alexandra Park and is now satisfactory in terms of materials and finish and increases the communal and historical value of the designated heritage asset.
Councillors were shown plans and photographs of the site.
Concerns regarding the content of the memorials inscription were unable to be addressed as part of this discussion as they fall outside of the specific remit of the Planning Committee.
Cllr O’Callaghan proposed a motion, seconded by Cllr Bishop, to approve the application as set out in the resolution below.
