More public EV charging facilities in Hastings
We the undersigned petition the council to Strongly encourage local businesses to, or install themselves, more public charging facilities for electric vehicle owners.Hastings Currently only has 2 public EV charging facilities to cover the entire town. This simply is not enough. I believe the local council need to encourage local supermarkets and shopping centres/retail parks to install public EV charging facilities or install more in the councils own car parks. I have spoken to local car dealerships and they have said the sale of EV cars is hindered massively by this. With all the latest facts in the news about the damage to people’s health and to the environment, local councils should be doing everything they can to reduce the number of polluting cars on the road and encourage more electric vehicle sales.
Most EV cars have a much shorter range than ones with a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE). This means that a day trip to Hastings could use the entire battery of an electric car. These visitors would need somewhere to charge their car up before heading home.
This is a comment I received on a Facebook status on the UK Electric Vehicle Owners page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1776102549282259/
"I used the charger on the seafront 18 months ago, whilst visiting from Scotland in my 2013, 24 kWh Leaf. The nearest rapid then was the rather odd one at a doctors surgery in the sticks, as I recall.
Any seaside town that cares about tourism needs chargers, destination plus at least two or three rapids."The facts are simple. EV Cars are better for the environment and general health than traditional ICE cars. Hastings needs to facilitate these cars by installing a sufficient network of public chargers to cater for not only existing numbers of EV cars but to encourage future sales. Also with the new vehicle tax rules coming into force on April 1st 2017, ICE cars will be far more expensive to tax year on year, making EV's a more affordable option.
Please sign this petition to make this happen.
